Biodiversity: It's the little things that matter most.

Understanding the effects of environmental pressures requires timely, detailed and accurate data on species diversity and distribution. Characterising biological communities in an ecosystem provides insights into the key drivers of ecological disturbance.

We provide environmental DNA-based biodiversity monitoring services to enhance your current ecological surveys, enabling you to make more informed decisions for efficient and cost-effective management of environmental pressures.

We have developed methods for the collection, processing and analysis of large-volume environmental samples to maximise the probability of eDNA capture and detection, delivering deeper due diligence and more meaningful risk intelligence for your environmental assessments.

Environmental due diligence

Ask us about: Identification of sensitive ecological receptors

For establishment of ecological baselines and ongoing monitoring of local ecology. Environmental DNA analysis provides responsive, cost-effective biodiversity monitoring for understanding the ecological state, stability and productivity of your site.

Freshwater and marine fish surveys

  • Environmental DNA surveys are a highly effective and efficient alternative to more disruptive electro-fishing or netting surveys, requiring significantly less time and resources.
  • Select our low-volume eDNA water sampling kits for collection of replicate shoreline or surface water samples.
  • Select our high-volume eDNA water sampling kits for sampling of large or dynamic water-bodies.

Benthic invertebrate surveys

  • Select our low-volume sediment eDNA sampling kit to collect eDNA samples to enhance your current sampling methods.

Soil biodiversity

  • Select our high-volume soil eDNA sampling kit for consistent landscape-scale sampling of your site.

Early detection, monitoring and informed rapid response to invasive non-native species are crucial for ecological and economic harm minimisation.

Biosecurity surveillance using environmental DNA sampling provides a proactive early-warning system for mitigating harm from potential invasive non-native species

Population Genetics:

Using tissue, hair or faecal samples, we can provide quantitative analysis of the genetic diversity of wild populations. This provides insights into population size, demography, geographical distribution, migratory patterns, and population viability.

Diet Analysis:

Sometimes the best sampler for the job is the one that has evolved over millions of years. Characterisation of faecal or gut contents can reveal the diversity of organisms “sampled” by an animal as it moved through its environment. Our poop sampling kits provide a highly economical alternative to conventional sampling methods.

Ecological risk intelligence

Ask us about: Characterisation of indicator taxa in the presence of environmental pressures.

A number of regulatory regimes require an ecological risk assessment (EcoRA) to be carried out. EcoRA is concerned with populations and communities and the effects of substances on their mortality and fecundity.

EcoRA has to deal with a multitude of organisms, all with varying sensitivities to chemicals and various groups have distinct exposure scenarios. Using data from our eDNA biodiversity analyses, we can provide you with meaningful insights, such as identification of sensitive receptors using multiparameter threshold analysis on identified taxa.

This type of analysis is useful for informing land quality assessments in Phase 2 Detailed Quantitative Risk Assessment.

Environmental impact assessment

Ask us about: Modelling of ecological effect zones for impact assessment.

  • We provide independent validation of outcomes for Phase 3 Remediation works.
  • We perform before and after remediation analyses of impacted and control sites to deliver an independent appraisal of remediation works.
  • We apply statistical tools to identify ecological tipping-point indicators, delivering meaningful insights for improving your environmental management decisions.

Applications include:

  • Parasite surveillance and population ecology
  • Disease ecology in plant and animal communities

Our team has extensive global experience working across multiple industrial sectors. We can provide eDNA services for:

  • Aquaculture – environmental zone-of-effect monitoring.
  • Oil & Gas – physico-chemical correspondence analysis.
  • Mining – monitoring of site remediation.
  • Agriculture – characterisation of soil biodiversity.
  • Forestry – habitat analysis and disease monitoring.

DNA Sampling Kits

Good sampling is the foundation of a good study. It is, arguably, the only step in the process that cannot be repeated. So, it’s worth doing it correctly the first time.

Building on our extensive experience collecting environmental samples in challenging environments, we have developed environmental DNA sampling solutions to suit projects of various sizes in terrestrial, aquatic and marine environments. Each of our eDNA sampling kits provides everything you need for convenient and consistent sample collection, to maximise the probability of detection and ensure meaningful results.

Low-volume Sampling Kit

  • Suitable for shoreline and surface-water sampling, our low-volume (up to 5 litres/sample) eDNA sampling kits provide a simple and cost-effective method of sample collection which can greatly improve the efficiency of your ecological surveys.

High-volume Sampling Kit

  • We have developed proprietary technology for autonomous collection of large-volume water samples (up to 50 litres/sample).
  • Our sampler will collect your sample over a programmable time-period of hours to weeks, which enables the flexibility to eliminate temporal variability due to tidal cycles and other current flows.
  • Deployment options include buoy-mounted or benthic demersal layer sampling.
  • Deployment at the benthos further eliminates physical variables from tidal depth, Ekman effects, Langmuir circulation, etc.
  • Demersal currents are slower than surface currents and eDNA from the demersal layer is more likely to contain locally relevant eDNA of both epifauna and fishes.

Low-volume Soil & Sediment Kit

Designed to enhance your current sampling programme, this kit allows you to collect up to 250 grams of soil or benthic sediment per sample. Samples are stored in a non-hazardous DNA preservative solution that can be easily transported by land, sea or air.

High-volume Soil Kit

Suitable for site-based assessment, this kit enables collection of larger volume samples for consistent and comprehensive eDNA surveys. Samples are stored in a non-hazardous DNA preservative solution that can be easily transported by land, sea or air.
